The man currently serving as Owasso's Project Administrator and Government Affairs Manager, John Feary, recently announced his candidacy for Oklahoma State Senate District 34 seat. Feary plans to focus on education and transportation if elected.

Senate District 34 is in northern Tulsa County and includes parts of Skiatook and Sperrry, Owasso, Collinsville, Turley and also portions of the city of Tulsa. Feary is running in the special election to replace current Senator Rick Brinkley, who due to legal troubles, is resigning effective December 31 of this year.
