The ban on texting while driving in Oklahoma goes into effect on Monday, November 1. House Bill 1965 was signed into law on May 5 by Governor Mary Fallin. According to Bartlesville Police Captain, Rocky Bevard, a big part of enforcing the texting while driving ban depends on citizen input.

Bevard is a defensive driving instructor for the Oklahoma Safety Council and said statistics speak for themselves. The first version of HB 1965 was introduced by Oklahoma legislators on January 22. Just one week later, Trooper Nicholas Dees was killed and Trooper Keith Burch was severely injured by a driver using social media while they were working an accident on I-40.
