Independence Man Injured in Thanksgiving Accident
Alcohol reportedly led to a Thanksgiving evening accident on State Highway 123 in Washington County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a 43 year-old Independence man was driving his pickup southbound on the highway 4-tenths of a mile north of Bartlesville when it went off the road to the right and travelled 167 feet before it hit a tree. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and landed 15 feet from it. Bartlesville EMS took him to Tulsa's St. Johns Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition with head, leg, and internal injuries. The officer's report indicates the driver gave off an odor of alcohol. Officials withheld the name of the man pending notification of next of kin.
