House Bill 2957 will go into effect of July 1st. The bill will save millions of dollars while giving local school districts greater control in teacher evaluations. The bill, by Representative Michael Rogers and Senator John Ford was approved during the 2016 legislative session. The measure makes changes to Oklahoma's Teacher Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System.

House Bill 2957 removes the mandate of tying a teacher's performance rating to student test scores. It also eliminates the requirement for evaluation scores to be used to terminate teachers. However, schools may still use the assessment tools that factor in test scores if they choose to, but the school is responsible for the cost of those test.
