Oklahoma Labor Commissioner, Melissa Houston spoke with Washington County residents as part of the Arvest Friday Financial Forum.  Houston has been on the job for less than a year.  Governor Mary Fallin appointed her to the job after former commissioner, Mark Costello was killed at an Oklahoma City restaurant.

Houston spent much of her presentation talking about the responsibilities of her office.  Houston says her staff provides help in a wide range of job areas.

Houston says her office will provide a safety inspection as a service to businesses to find items where OSHA may find violations.  Her staff will then work with businesses to help correct problems.  She says her staff doesn't report to the Federal government.  The Labor Commissioner's office also is providing guidance on the new wage and hour laws.

Here's the commissioner's website.
