OKWU Sweeps McPherson College

Both Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams broke their loosing streaks Saturday afternoon in Bartlesville against McPherson College.  Lady Eagles won 67-57 while the Eagles won 79-78.

Lady Eagles led throughout the contest as they broke their 3-game loosing streak.  The difference in the ball game was OKWU only had nine turnovers.  Lady Eagles shot 34 percent from the field and shot 41 percent from the 3-point line, 12 of 29.  Shelbie Kirby led with 23 points and Tiffany Rieger added 16 points.  Cheyenne Been came off the bench and finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.  Lady Eagles were out rebounded 44-38.  OKWU improves to 10-11 overall and 6-7 in KCAC play.

The Eagles were 0-4 in the month of January, but finally put on a nice win at home, only their second KCAC home victory.  The game was tied at 37 a piece at halftime.  The Eagles led as many as 13 points in the second half, but the Bulldogs used their full-court press to come back late in the game.  McPherson had a shot to win with 4.9 seconds, missed a five-footer, and Shaq Martin got a key defensive rebound to end the Eagles' four-game loosing streak.  Breiman Alexander led OKWU with 20 points and five assists and Elbert Lawrence finished with 16 points.  AJ Jack and Jake Feickert both finished with 11 points.  Martin led OKWU with 11 rebounds and finished with five points.  The Eagles shot 45 percent from the field and 43 percent from the 3-point line, 10 of 24.  The Eagles improve to 8-12 overall and 5-8 in KCAC play.  

Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles are back in action this Wednesday as they travel to Ottawa, Kansas to take on Ottawa University.  Ladies play at 6 P.M. and the Men play at 8 P.M.  You can hear both games on Sports Talk 99.1 FM KPGM.
