We learned in April that Oklahoma Wesleyan shortstop Austin Sojka received national acclaim as he named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list, an award recognizing the top amateur baseball player in the country. Unfortunately, Sojka was not selected as one of the top twenty-five semifinalists for the award.

Sojka was a key piece in Oklahoma Wesleyan’s run to the NAIA national tournament. The Eagles season was ended last week after back-to-back losses to Freed-Hardeman University in the Henderson, Tennessee regional.

Sojka racked up some incredible statistics in 2019. His .447 batting average was the fourth best clip in the NAIA. Sojka tallied 14 home runs, 53 runs batted in and drew 35 walks. Sojka was selected as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year for his performance.

The Huntington Beach, California-native has a legitimate chance to become the first OKWU player ever selected in the Major League Baseball draft. Sojka says playing professionally would be a dream come true.

The 40-round draft runs June 3-5.
