High school football practices have hit week two and the countdown to first set of games on August 28 continues. At Nowata it will be a new regime and offensive scheme once again. A new quarterback will be taking the first snap of the season as well. Broden Monroe, a tall strong-armed athlete won the job during the offseason and will be the leader of the spread offense attack.

Trenton Smith started 11 games under center last year when the Ironmen ran the Wing-T offense. New head coach Graham Snelding would prefer Smith to have the ball in his hands on the perimeter along with Emmett Sells, Garrett Kuehler, Dagan West and others.

Snelding is hoping to take the Ironmen back to the playoffs for a second consecutive season. This may be a tall task for a first-year head coach. However, at his previous job with Newkirk, Snelding did just that during the 2018 season. He says the key is getting the kids to trust you and your system as quickly as possible.

Nowata opens with Oklahoma Union during zero on August 28. That game will be aired on KRIG 104.9 FM.
