One house was evacuated and gas service was temporarily disconnected from two homes and a business in Caney, Kansas Thursday morning after a contractor hit a gas line.  Only the area around the 200 block of East 5th was affected.  According to Public Relations Manager for Kansas Atmos Energy Jim Bartling, service should be restored by 12:30 in the afternoon. 

Bartling says the volume of escaping gas from the line was not large enough to warrant a major evacuation.  Early reports from the Caney, Kansas police department indicated that the 200 block of East 5th street had been evacuated due to a 3 inch gas main break.   Bartling says that report was not entirely correct.
