A discussion wanting input from citizens about a possible 4-day school week turned into a lengthy discussion about details not yet determined. The Pawhuska School District wants to move the district to a 4 day school week. Some reasons given by the district include attracting teachers who are being drawn away by other districts, like Barnsdall. Those in attendance worried about longer hours effecting students, the possible impact on teachers' preparation times and how the shorter week might effect grants or other government funds. One other topic of contention is the school board having final say on the move to a four day school week, some in attendance felt that it should be a community decision. The next step in determining whether to move to a four day school week is a survey to be provided online in early January, then another community meeting set for January 15th at 5:30.
