The National Weather Service is looking for a few good storm spotters in Oklahoma.

National Weather Service forecasters are launching a series of classes for Oklahoma residents who want to learn more about severe weather.

Rick Smith, warning coordination meteorologist at the agency's Norman office, says meteorologists hold the training sessions every year to teach residents how to stay safe while they observe severe storms. Residents also learn how to report information to the National Weather Service or local emergency managers to help provide better warnings to others.

The Oklahoman reports that the training is designed for people interested in providing reports to local emergency managers. Smith says the sessions are open to anyone interested in learning more about what's going on in the atmosphere when severe weather strikes.
