Smoke blankets most of Southern Osage County as Fire Crews from Washington and Osage Counties battle against high winds to put out a large brush fire North of Skiatook.

Just before 4 pm on Tuesday the Osage County Emergency Management sent word of a very large brush fire located along Javine Hill Road between Avant and Skiatook.

The active fire spans more than 4 miles with evidence of hot spots and burning wood line between county roads 193 and 173. With emergency services including Osage County Sherriff and Osage County Emergency Management blocking the road from either direction to keep the roads clear for fire crews.

A UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter with a 600-gallon collapsible water bucket from the Oklahoma National Guard was called on scene to assist in controlling the blaze which is proving to be difficult due to shifting winds and oncoming storm front. However, fire crews continue to work diligently to keep the fire from moving into residential areas.

We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
