Fireworks and Your Pets are Not a Good Combination

The 4th of July means fireworks, family get-togethers and festivities. All are fun but not so much for our pets. Besides the loud noise of fireworks scaring your pet and causing them to run away, there are other dangers. The ASPCA warns that exposure to lit fireworks can result in severe burns or trauma but unused fireworks can contain toxic substances.

Sunscreen, insect repellant and citronella candles should be kept away from your pets as they can cause neurological and stomach problems. Also, if you're heading out to a fireworks display, leave your pet at home, safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area. If you do decide to take your pet, make sure the collar has identification and your pet is properly leashed.
