The Independence Day weekend is getting off to an early start for many.  Local, county, state and federal offices are closed today.  Banks are also taking a national holiday on July 3rd and 4th.  Mail will be delivered on Friday but there is no delivery scheduled for the Fourth.  Most people that had today off and traveling for the holiday are well on their way.

Those of us who are home for the weekend can find many events to entertain us.  This evening, it's Red, White and Boom in Owasso.  On the 4th of July, the Bartlesville Freedom Fest takes place at Johnstone Avenue and 2nd Street, with beginning at 6 P.M.  Dewey begins family friendly activities at 4 P.M. in Don Tyler Park.  In Nowata, family events begin at noon in Jack Gordon Park.  In Pawhuska, the Freedom Celebration Parade travels Lynn Avenue beginning at 9:30 A.M.
