Bench warrants have been issued for close to 12-thousand parents who are past due on child support. The Oklahoma Department of Human Services is offering “Amnesty in August” for the men and women that have fallen behind in their court-ordered child support payments. Noncustodial parents will be able to work with Child Support Services to come up with a payment plan without fear of arrest.

The unpaid amount adds up to a lot, $397.6 million, of which $170 million is interest. It has been at least 10 years since DHS has initiated such a program. The goal is to create a dialogue between DHS, the parents and the children. Contact your local DHS office for more information.
