2017 Bartlesville Sports Hall of Fame Announced

The Sports Commission announced the 2017 Bartlesville Sports Hall of Fame nominees during its annual meeting on Wednesday night at Barltesville High School.

The nominees will officially be inducted during the Hall of Fame Banquet on Nov. 11 at the Hilton Garden Inn. The inductees include one team, one coach, two individuals and one organization for community involvement. 

This year’s team is the 1980 College High baseball squad, which beat Sooner High in the State Championship game in 1980.

The coach is Joe Holladay. Holladay coached many teams in Bartlesville, including the 1978 golf state championship team. Holladay ended up on the staff with Roy Williams at both Kansas and North Carolina for men’s basketball.

The individuals nominated are Doug Tolin – who played basketball at Bartlesville and won an NAIA national title while coaching at Oklahoma Baptist. Also Mike Vaclaw, who was a football player that graduated in 1960 and. He played for Bud Wilkenson at OU in the early 60s.

And the Community inductee will be Bartlesville Radio along with former Bartlesville play-by-play man Bill Mingle who worked at KWON.
