Bruin Fieldhouse will no longer be home to an NCAA Division II conference tournament after 2019.

This coming March will be the final time that the Great American Conference Tournament will be in Bartlesville. Chairman of the Bartlesville Sports Commission Bob Pomeroy made the official announcement during the Bruin Tip-Off Luncheon on Tuesday afternoon.

Pomeroy said that the BSC board elected not to bid on the tournament going forward. Bruin Fieldhouse has been home to the event for eight straight years. It has hosted an NCAA conference tournament for 12 straight seasons, dating back to the Lonestar Conference beginning in 2008. Pomeroy explains why the Sports Commission is moving away from hosting the GAC.

The mission of the Bartlesville Sports Commission is to “Instill in the hearts and minds of Bartlesville youth the motivation to excel in athletics, to build excitement around all regional athletic events, and to generate and promote athletic activities that will have a positive economic impact on the Bartlesville area.”

Pomeroy says there are many other smaller-scale options for events that could come to Bartlesville that might make a bit more sense.

Pomeroy went on to say that the Bartlesville Sports Commission will continue raising money for Bartlesville High Athletics and continue to give grants to other area sports missions by hosting the Bruin kickoff and tip-off luncheons, the Bartlesville Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and through other endeavors – including searching for other events to bring to Bartlesville.
