Area Football Scrimmages Set For Friday

We are eight days away from high school football, as we continue our look at teams around the Northeast Oklahoma listening area. A majority of area teams will have their first real competition of the season with scrimmages on Friday.

The Nowata Ironmen have been busy instituting a new culture under first-year head coach Jeremy Gray. Gray says that stepping up the intensity of practice is the first step of the process.

The Ironmen will be one of three teams participating in a scrimmage at Cleveland High School. Cleveland went 3-7 last season and missed the playoffs while Sperry went 6-5 overall after a first round exit in the 3A playoffs.

Dewey High School will also be in action on Friday at Locust Grove High School. Two fellow-3A schools will be the competition with Locust Grove and Kellyville, both of whom missed the playoffs last year. Miami will be the lone representative from the 4A ranks at the scrimmage. They went 1-9 a season ago.

The Bartlesville Bruins will take travel to Collinsville for a tune up. The Cardinals will be a tough test for BHS as they made a run in to the 5A playoffs last season.

These scrimmages will go a long in way in preparing these teams for regular season action which begins Friday August 25. Full schedules for these area teams are available online at BartlesvilleRadio.com.
