Bartlesville Baseball In Regionals

There have been winning streaks and losing streaks in the 2015 Bartlesville baseball season.

BHS lost four in a row, won seven in a row, lost seven of eight, then won the last two games of the year to finish the regular season at 15-15. With wins over Booker T. Washington and Sapulpa, Bartlesville finds itself on a little uptick entering Thursday morning’s regional matchup against Owasso (22-5).

The Rams and Bruins will battle for the first time this season at 11 on Thursday. Bartlesville coach Spence Rigdon says that ending the year on a high note helps BHS more than one might think.

Bartlesville hasn’t played since Friday when it outlasted Sapulpa in a 12-11 slugfest. The time off game the coaching staff some time to scout Owasso. They were on hand for the Rams 10-1 victory over Coweta. Owasso is always a powerhouse in Oklahoma baseball. Rigdon says limiting mistakes will be more important than usual on Tuesday.

The Bruins have made their fare share of mistakes. Walks from the pitching staff, errors and a failure to hit with runners on base have plagued Bartlesville this year.

BHS has outhit several of the 6A’s elite teams this season, only to lose games that weren’t that close.

Bartlesville outhit Broken Arrow 7-6 in a game on April 13. BHS lost that game 6-2.

Bartlesville outhit Union 9-5 on April 17. BHS lost that game 9-3.

Rigdon says those games give him and the Bruins belief that they can beat anyone in the state if they put together a good performance.

Bartlesville will need good performances to make it out of the Owasso regional.

All the Bruin regional games that start before 5 PM, including Thursday morning’s game against Owasso, can be heard on Sports Talk 1500 AM KPGM.

You can find a bracket of the regional, and a full schedule here. Rain info and postponements will be posted on BartlesvilleRadio.com as soon as they are announced.
