Bartlesville Drops First Road Contest at Del City

Bartlesville football dropped to 0-3, as the Bruin offense got ramped up in the second half, but couldn’t quite complete a comeback effort.

Bartlesville fell to Del City 49-24 during a rainy and windy evening in the Oklahoma City area on Friday.

Bartlesville fell behind 28-7 in the second quarter, but the Bruins didn’t go away. Shane Simpson singlehandedly helped will BHS back into the ballgame. He had a kick return for a touchdown in the first quarter, then a touchdown to begin the third, as the Bruins got within 11.

Simpson would unofficially finish with 145 yards receiving on the night, catching every pass but one that the Bruins completed.

Bartlesville would again go down by 17, but the Bruins would drive inside the Del City 10, with a chance to get the Eagle lead down to 10 to begin the fourth quarter. However, the turnover bug hit again, as a 99-yard pick-six thrown by the Bruins would put the game out of reach.

It was a 14-point swing that Bartlesville could not recover from.

BHS did move the ball better down the stretch, just not well enough to win the game, 178 of the Bruins 245 total yards of offense game in the second half.

BHS will get into district play this coming Friday at home against Booker T. Washington.
