Bartlesville tennis is establishing itself as a state power in 2015.

Both the boys and girls teams have won nearly half of the events they’ve participated in. The players are an experienced bunch; seven of the 12 varsity players for Bartlesville are seniors.

Bruin head coach Brent Massey says that he thinks this is the season the teams can make some noise at the state tournament. Bartlesville hasn’t finished in the top eight in 6A at the state tournament since Massey has been with BHS. He says that is the goal this season. Massey recaps the season so far.

Individually, there are several Bruins and Lady Bruins who stand out.

A few of the seniors: Robert Meszaros, who plays boys 1 singles, has had a great season so far. Meszaros recently beat one of the best players in 5A. The girl’s 1 doubles team, Hayley Walton and Arianna are in their first season playing with each other and things have clicked.

Erin Epperson, who is just a sophomore, is one of the best players in the state. Epperson took fifth at number 1 singles in the state tournament last year and is continuing her outstanding play this season.

Overall, the clubs are working on staying in shape. It will have been eight between events for both tennis teams when they play their next event in Broken Arrow on Friday.
