Battered Bulldoggers Prepare for Sperry

The Dewey Bulldoggers face stiff competition yet again this week. The Doggers are fresh off a 44-point defeat at the hands of No. 6 Adair last Friday. Now Dewey faces 2-2 Sperry, another one of the favorites in 2A-8.

Head coach Trent Turner says the Doggers could be without as many as eight starters come Friday night. Dewey had several players pick up injuries of varying degrees in the Adair game. Turner says roster depth will help the team during a tough time.

Some of those younger players got opportunities on the field in the second half of last week’s loss. Freshman running back Gabe Villanueva got nine carries under his belt. The freshman tailback also had a touchdown against Vinita. Freshman quarterback Bryce Sickler has seen action in two games in a row as well. Sickler completed all four of his pass attempts last week. Several other younger Doggers could be in line for their first career starts this week.

Dewey heads to Sperry for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday. No radio coverage for the Doggers this week.
