Bruin Soccer Off on Good Footing

Spring break is here for many schools across the area – and we continue our look at different spring sports.

The Bartlesville High boys ‘soccer team is off to a 2-1 start. The Bruins won their most recent game on Friday night at Claremore 2-0. Bartlesville is being led by first year head coach Jamie Peterson. That name may sound familiar, as Peterson is also the head men’s soccer coach at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Peterson had been involved with the soccer program briefly at BHS a few years back, but this is his first stint as a high school coach. Peterson talks about the differences between running a college and a high school program.

The Bruins have seven seniors on this year’s squad. Andre Johnson is one of the main returners from 2016. Johnson is the captain.

BHS lost Joseph Ruiz to gradation after the winter semester – he was scheduled to be a senior this year. Ruiz signed to play with Tulsa in the offseason – he graduated early and enrolled at TU this spring semester – forgoing his senior year of soccer at Bartlesville.

We’ll have more on Bruin and Lady Bruin soccer as the season progresses.
