Bruin Swimming Chugging Toward Regionals

Bartlesville High swimming ended up competing in a meet over the weekend.

The stop and start nature of this swim season has been as rough as open waters.

BHS had not been in a regular season meet in nearly five weeks before the Frontier Valley Conference swim meet was initially called off on Friday morning.

It was cancelled not because of COVID-19, but because the Jenks’ Aquatic Center pool’s heater had gone out.

However, Bixby stepped up to host the meet instead at the last moment on Saturday morning, and both BHS clubs competed without fans.

Bartlesville took third on the guy's side and second on the girl's side. Only four teams competed in the event, in Bixby, Jenks, Bartlesville and Broken Arrow.

Bartlesville hopes to have one more meet next week for senior night. The girls and guys teams have spent this year practicing for the most part, instead of competing.

Head coach Chad Englehart talks about how that effect’s his athletes.

Bartlesville had a meet against Union and Jenks earlier in December, but went 39 days without a competition.

Englehart says getting some actual competition in is good to keep the swimmers focused down the stretch.

We will have more on BHS swimming as the week rolls on and regionals approach.
