The Bartlesville boys basketball team won its first game in the 44th annual Coffeyville Interstate Classic on Thursday at Nellis Hall.

The Bruins topped the Wichita Defenders 76-50. BHS improves to 7-5 and takes on Bishop Miege, a private school from the Kansas City, Kansas area on Friday at 3:30 in the semifinals.

Bartlesville didn't get off to a great start. The Bruins and Defenders were tied at 18 at the end of the first quarter. After urging from Clent Stewart to buckle down on defense Bartlesville only allowed 10 points in the second quarter.

BHS hit back-to-back-to-back three-pointers from Barron Tanner, Matt Simpson and Andrew Gronigan that quickly increased its lead to nine.

Tayo Dina had a fantastic outing, scoring 15 points, second only to AJ Archambo who led Bartlesville with 16.

Sports Talk 1500 AM - KPGM and FM 99.1 will have the Bruins and Stags of Bishop Miege on Friday afternoon with pregame beginning just after 3:00.

Miege topped Nathan Hale, 80-56 on Thursday to improve to 7-1 on the season.
