The 2018-19 high school basketball season is officially here as a few area teams open there seasons. The Caney Valley Trojans will start the season with a doubleheader against Afton on Friday.

The boy’s team will look to build off a 12-14 campaign last season. The Trojans lost some of their size from a year ago and are searching for an inside presence. Caney Valley has been hard at work all offseason. Head coach Tug Brinker talks about this year’s team.

The Trojans beat Afton 54-51 in their lone meeting last season.

The girl’s team is coming off a stellar campaign in which it went 20-7 and made an appearance in the Area tournament. The Lady Trojans will have to replace Gavriel Meyers, a top player who is now on the roster at Oklahoma Wesleyan.

The Lady Trojans handled Afton last year as well. Tipoff from Ramona is slated for 6 p.m. for the season-opening doubleheader.

You can hear more from Tug Brinker and Deric Longan at Saturday’s Coaches Breakfast Broadcast, which is our full look at high school basketball across the area. That will air on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3. It will start at 7:00 in the morning and run until 9:30 or so.
