Bartlesville High boys’ and girls’ basketball opened up their seasons on Friday night at Bruin Field House.

We have a recap of the double-header split on our website at BartlesvilleRadio.com.

The Lady Bruins fell to one of the best teams in the state in Sapulpa in their opener. On the guy’s side it was tremendous performances from junior David Castillo and senior transfer Michael Smith III that propelled BHS to a 20-point victory.

Castillo had the second-most points of his Bartlesville career. He scored 42 points on 6-13 three-point shooting. He also shot 12 free throws in the win.

After the game on Friday Castillo gave all the credit to his teammates.

The win sets the Bruins up with momentum for a bigger matchup with Bixby on Tuesday night from Bruin Field House. The Spartans will likely be a top-half team in the Frontier Valley Conference.

They are led by senior guard Parker Frederickson, who is probably e the second-highest rated recruit in the state behind Castillo. Frederickson has committed to Notre Dame when he graduates in May, after de-committing from Oklahoma State earlier in the recruiting process.

BHS won a 2-point game over the Spartans on a Castillo buzzer-beater a year ago in this game. A 6:30 tip on Tuesday night for the girls with the guys’ at 8:00 on KWON and KWONTV.com.
