Copan Picks Up Win: Hornets Improving

Copan picked up its first win in more than two years back on Dec. 9. The Hornets picked up their second win in a far shorter amount of time.

The Hornets knocked off a good Wesleyan Christian team on Friday, 53-48, to improve to 2-5 on the year. Copan coach Kevin Foreman was pleased. The Hornets lost to a tough Hominy team earlier in the week 64-41. The Key to the Hornets success wasn't hard to pinpoint for Foreman. Fundamentals and Defense.

The game against Hominy was by no means a disappointment. Copan, a Class B school, was going up two classifications, meaning athlete-wise, sometimes you're just overmatched. But in the Wesleyan game, Foreman says his players shined, doing all the little things you need to do to pick off a win against a good team. Rebounding and defense, once again, shouldn't be overlooked.

The confidence of a win can't be overstated, either. Foreman says that different players, who hadn't been that big for the Hornets, stepped up in their win over the Mustangs. He hopes that continues.

It is mid-Janurary, and Foreman says that the fundamentals better keep improving, and that the boys need to keep working.

Playoffs will be here before you know it.

Copan continues it's tougher schedule this week. The Hornets are traveling to Woodland on Tuesday night before they get a rematch with Hominy, this time at home on Friday.
