Davis Beats Nowata To Claim 2A Title
Nowata's quest for a Class 2A State Title fell short Friday night at Stillwater as the Davis Wolves are back-to-back state champions with a 20-13 victory. Nowata got on the board first on a five-play 72 yard drive when senior quarterback Wyatt Steigerwald scored on a 37-yard run. The point after was good and Nowata led 7-0. Davis would come back late in the second quarter on a 4th and Goal from Nowata's two yard line when JT Maynard scored on a two-yard pass from Blake Summers. The kick was good and the game was tied at seven a piece. Davis got the ball to start the second half and took a 14-7 lead. Nowata only had one possession in the third quarter as Davis controlled most the quarter. The Wolves took a 20-7 lead early in the fourth quarter on a 17-play 87 yards capped off on a Hunter Karlick's nine yard run. Nowata responded on the next drive when Steigerwald threw a 46-yard pass to Scott Pruett. Nowata's comeback fell short as Steigerwald threw an interception and Davis won 20-13. The Wolves end the year at 15-0 and has the state's longest winning streak to 30 games. The magical season for Nowata ends with a 14-1 record. Congrats to the Ironmen on a fantastic year.
