The Dewey Bulldogger baseball team turned a new leaf in the second half of the 2018 season. The Doggers struggled to hit the ball against stern competition in the opening weeks of the season. Dewey was shutout three separate times before the season hit its midpoint and held a meager 3-9 record.

Dewey completely reversed its fortunes going 9-3 in the second half of the regular season to finish at 12-12. The offense scored ten or more runs six times in that 12-game period, effectively carrying the team back to .500. Dewey head coach Colby O’Donnell says the season has gone according to plan.

The goal for the Doggers this season was to win a district championship and regional championship. The team will try to achieve the first step of this on Thursday with a doubleheader against Newkirk in the district playoffs.

Dewey will host the Tigers in a best-of-three series to decide who advances to the 3A regional tournament. Newkirk is 15-16 on the season.

The Doggers bring a seven-game winning streak into the postseason.

First pitch from Dewey is set for 4:00 p.m.
