The Dewey Bulldoggers district playoff bout with Kellyville didn’t go as planned as the Doggers fell, 72-36. The Doggers kept it close early on but ultimately succumbed to the pressure defense of the Ponies.

Dewey hit four- three pointers in a stretch of five first quarter possessions to spark the offense early on. This one from Kale Carner put the Doggers within a point.

The Doggers trailed 13-12 with two minutes left in the opening period. Kellyville would close the quarter on a 12-2 run and take a double-digit for the rest of the way. The Ponies put the rout on expanding the lead to 46-24 at halftime. Dewey struggled the rest of the way scoring just 12 second-half points.

Caden Baughn and Hayden Thornton each tallied 12 points. Dewey will play next on Thursday in the Kellyville regional against the loser of Saturday’s Adair-Metro Christian game. The Doggers don’t have any breathing room as the next loss will end their season. Dewey falls to 7-16 with the loss.
