The Dewey Bulldoggers ended the regular season on a sour note with a 71-53 loss at Caney Valley, Kansas. Dewey couldn’t stave off a third quarter run from the Bullpups after holding a one-point halftime lead.

The game started off with hot shooting from the Doggers leading to a 19-12 advantage after one period. Colby Henley sparked the Doggers early with 10 first quarter points including this transition bucket.

Caney would close the gap to one by halftime with a late second quarter surge. The Bullpups would take the lead on their first shot of the third quarter and would not look back. Caney closed the third quarter on an 18-4 run in the final five minutes. Caney’s Cam Melchiori was the top-scorer on the game with 28 points.

Hayden Thornton tallied 26 points to lead the Doggers. Dewey falls to 7-15 with the loss. The Doggers and Bullpups split the season series.

Dewey is next in action on Friday in the district playoffs against Kellyville.
