The Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball team rode a strong second half to victory on Tuesday night. The Eagles knocked off Evangel 69-45 to win their fifth straight game to open the season.

The Eagles played a grind-it-out style to win yet again. OKWU was slow to get going on offense in the first half. Wesleyan led 33-25 at the break. Brandon Bird was the top performer in the first half. The junior scored 11 points in the first half including this bucket and foul.

The Eagles would go on a 7-2 run in the first few minutes after the break. OKWU would continue to add on to the second half lead as Evangel wore down. Over the final seven minutes the Eagles outscored the opponent 14-5 and allowed just one made field goal. Jaden Lietzke put the cherry on top late with another thunderous dunk.

Dylan Phillip and Derrick Talton Jr. were also in double-figures on the night. OKWU held evangel to under 30% from the floor in the win. The Eagles wrap up the non-conference slate at John Brown University on Saturday.
