Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball split its first home doubleheader of the season on Wednesday. The Lady Eagles were handed a lopsided loss by Sterling while the men’s team won comfortably.

The Lady Eagles were outclassed from the start. The Lady Warriors showed that they were a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title contender in the 99-65 win. Sterling is now 12-0. OKWU fell down double-digits early and could not keep the pace. Sophomore Melanie Williams was a bright spot with 11 point and three blocks. This post move was her top play.

The Lady Eagles fall to 3-5 overall with a rematch with Sterling tentatively set for Saturday.

The men’s team dodged a slow start to win 73-59. The Eagles did not hit a field goal in the first four minutes of the game but a strong stint from the second unit drew the game level at 13. OKWU would go on a 13-2 run late in the half to pull away. The Eagles led 39-23 at the break.

Another poor start hindered the team in the second half. However, Lense Ramey would change that. The Eagles senior guard would score eight points on three straight possessions spanning just over one minute of game action to re-stretch the lead.

Ramey was one of five Eagles who scored at least 10 points. Valentin Van Putten led the team with 15 points off the bench. The Eagles move to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in KCAC play. The win came in the team’s first game since November 17.

OKWU is tentatively set to play Bethany at home on Monday, December 7
