Eagles Survive Bobcats In MCAC Tourney

Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles got off to a good start in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday evening as they survive a 7-5 win against College of the Ozarks.  

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning.  The Eagles stormed back scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead, thanks to a lead off triple by Jeff Butler.  C of O scored a run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at two, but OKWU came back again scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead.  The Bobcats kept the game close, but fell short as the Eagles advance to the winners bracket semi-finals.  As a team, OKWU out hit C of O 11-7.  Errors cost the Bobcats as they committed five errors.  Hugo Lemus got the win on the mound.  In six innings of work, Lemus gave up four runs on five hits, walked three, and struck out four.  Sam Hayes came in the seventh and gave up a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out three.  Will Price went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's while Brandon Cummings went 2 for 4 with a triple.  Jeff Butler had a triple and Austin Murphy hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh.  Avery Flores, John Davenport, and Gunner Joyce each got a hit.

The Eagles are 44-10 on the year and will take on Bellevue in the semi-finals Friday afternoon at 3:30 at Doenges Stadium.

Thursday's games:

College of the Ozarks 10.  Central Baptist 0

Bellevue 5.  York College 3

OKWU 7.  College of the Ozarks 5

 

Friday's games:

Noon- York College vs. Central Baptist

3:30pm- OKWU vs. Bellevue

7pm- York College/Central Baptist winner vs. OKWU/Bellevue loser.
