It was yet another split on Wednesday night at the Mueller Sports Centers as the Eagle men pulled off another upset, while the Lady Eagles lost another heartbreaker in the final minute.

In the first game the Lady Eagles let one slip away against Ottawa, 62-60. The loss marks the fifth in a row for Wesleyan. OKWU missed two opportunities to take the lead in the game’s final thirty seconds. The Lady Eagles played catch-up for most of the game, but this three-pointer from Makayla Watkins gave them the lead late.

Ultimately the Lady Braves played better defense down the stretch. A questionable technical foul called on OKWU head coach Grace Hadley late in the game aided Ottawa’s win. Danae Goodwin posted a career-high 22 points in the loss. OKWU is 10-7 and 6-7 in KCAC play.

The No. 16 Eagle men are now tied for first place in the conference after upsetting seventh-ranked Ottawa, 90-80. OKWU has now won five games in a row—all by at least 10 points.

The Eagles started off strong as its play in the first half created a wide gap that the Braves could never fully narrow. OKWU went on an 18-8 run over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 51-36 lead into the locker room. Lance Tipton hit a long three to keep the run going.

Brooks Haddock hit 12 free throws to help seal the victory in the second half. Valentin Van Putten and Taylen Miller each scored double-digits off the bench.

Both teams are off until Monday when they travel to Bethany College.
