Eagles Win, Lady Eagles Fall
Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams were in action Saturday afternoon at Bartlesville. The Eagles improved to 2-0 overall with a 82-78 win over the University of St. Mary while the Lady Eagles fouight hard but fell shot by Texas Wesleyan 82-77. Four Lady Eagle players scored in double figures. Leading the way was Kayla Morgan's 22 points while Megan Jones added 16. Kayla Wyrick finished with 13 points while Kelsey Jones added 11. Poor shooting was a factor for OKWU as they shot 33 percent from the field and 24 percent from the three-point line. Lady Eagles led as many as seven in the first half while Texas Wesleyan led as many as 15 points in the second half. The Lady Rams had five players in double figures with Takoia Larry led the team with 21 points. In the mens game, Josh Young scored a game high 24 points as the Eagles survived the Spires. Phillip Jahn finished the afternoon with 17 points while Tyler Woods added 16 points while Devin Harris despite being in foul trouble finished with 12 points. The Eagles led 38-33 at halftime, but trailed as many as eight points in the second half by St. Mary's. OKWU made some defensive stops and took advantage against the Spires. Jerry Sipple and Jamal Akakpo led St. Mary's with 20 points a piece. The Eagles shot 45 percent from the field while St. Mary's shot 46 percent.
