It was heartbreak all around as both the Eagles and Lady Eagles lost in the final minutes of a doubleheader at Southwestern College. The Lady Eagles played first and lost 68-66. OKWU led until the eight-minute mark of the fourth quarter when the Lady Builders would make a great contest out of it.

The lead switched back and forth five times after that point. Nicole Ickes would scrap her way to the bucket on this play that put the Lady Eagles up 61-60 with three minutes leftHowever, that would be the last time the Lady Eagles would hold the lead in the contest. Knotted at 64 with 40 seconds left, Essence Tolson would get tagged with a questionable foul call and the Builders would hit the free throws to take the win. The Lady Eagled drop to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in conference.

It took overtime to decide the men’s game, but the Eagles were on the wrong side of a 76-73 decision. OKWU trailed 61-57 late in regulation but Brooks Haddock scored two big buckets to knot up the game. Normally an outside shooter, Haddock attacked the basket to send the game to an extra period.

The Eagles led 73-72 with 36 seconds remaining. However, OKWUwould have two costly turnovers on their final two possessions to squander the game. Haddock finished with 25 points on the night. The Eagles are now 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the KCAC.

Both teams are back in action for a Saturday doubleheader against McPherson.
