It finally happened. Longtime Oklahoma State basketball coach Eddie Sutton has been inducted into Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, according to reports. It is expected to be announced during an ESPN special on Saturday morning.

Sutton coached the Cowboys from 1990 to 2006. OSU went to 13 NCAA tournaments in his 16 seasons, which included final four appearances in 1995 and 2004. Sutton is also one of just four men’s coaches to achieve 800 career victories. Sutton talked about the Hall of Fame in a 2015 interview with John Holcomb with the News on 6.

Since 2005 the floor at historic Gallagher-Iba Arena has dawned Sutton’s name. At 84 now, the coach still makes appearances at OSU games despite declining health. This year was Sutton’s seventh appearance on the ballot. The news was welcomed by the entire Cowboy basketball community as several former players and assistant coaches celebrate the long overdue news.
