The Nowata Ironmen and Lady Ironmen were in action Thursday evening in the semi-finals of the Nowata Basketball Tournament.  It wasn't a good day for both Nowata squads.  The Ironmen lost 97-78 to Sperry while the Lady Ironmen lost 49-26 to Chelsea.

The Ironmen led 4-0 early in the first period, but Sperry responded and took the lead for most of the contest.  A lot of fouls were called and 76 total free throws were attempted between both schools.  Nowata went 21-42 while Sperry went 20-34.  Nowata had eight players suit up for the game and four of those players finished in double figures.  Michael Velasco led with 21 points followed by Zen Callahan's 19 and Matt Price finished with 16 points.  Tim Callahan finished the evening with 13 points.  Logan Mullins led the Pirates with a game high 33 points.

It wasn't the same Lady Ironmen ball club that took care of business against Oklahoma Union Monday night as Chelsea took advantage of Nowata's turnovers and claimed the victory.  Nowata got off to a good start in the first period and led 9-3 and took a 14-13 lead in the locker room.  It was all Lady Dragons in the second half as they outscored Nowata 36-12, including a 16-1 run in the third period.  Reva Smith and Alecia Mayhew led Nowata with seven points a piece.

Both the Ironmen and Lady Ironmen will play for third place on Saturday.  Lady Ironmen will play Sperry at 4 P.M. while the Ironmen will take on Summit Christian at 5:30.
