Nowata Fall On Late FG

Verdigris Cardinals kicker Jax Robinson kicked a 27-yard field goal with five seconds left in the game spoiled Nowata's Homecoming Friday night with a 41-38 victory. 

Nowata got on the board first on a 65-yard interception return by Xavier Mathis to give the Ironmen a 6-0 lead.  The other interception return of the game was by the Ironmen's Cody Smith 79-yard return in the third quarter.  The Ironmen led 19-0 when Verdigris scored twice in the second quarter and trailed 19-14 at halftime.  Nowata led 32-14 going into the fourth quarter when Verdigris made their comeback, outscoring Nowata 27-6 in the quarter to improve to 3-1 overall.  Ironmen quarterback Will Luster had an outstanding night, rushing for 316 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns, including a 90-yard run and an 80-yard run.  Nowata's other star player Tarrell Collins finished the evening with 54-yards rushing on 18 carries.  The passing game didn't exist as Nowata only had 22-yards passing.  As a team, the Ironmen rushed for 395 yards.  Verdigris finished the evening with 545 yards of total offense. 

Nowata falls to 2-2 this season and will begin district play next Friday at Ramona as they will take on the Caney Valley Trojans.
