Nowata Football Making Progress Despite Tough Schedule

The Nowata Ironmen find themselves on a four-game losing skid to open the year. Nowata fell 52-8 to Sperry last Friday in its 2A-8 district opener. The Ironmen have another daunting task with No. 6 Adair coming up this week. The Warriors just beat Dewey 50-6 last Friday.

Despite the poor record head coach Graham Snelding is looking at the positives. It’s hard to ignore the progress of quarterback Broden Monroe who took his first snaps at the position over the summer. Monroe has thrown four touchdowns and only one interception to start the season. Snelding has been impressed with his senior gunslinger.

One of his top targets has been Eli Savala who notched a touchdown catch against Sperry for his third total touchdown of the season. Savala also has the only defensive score of the season for the Ironmen.

The game with Adair on Friday continues a tough stretch of Nowata’s schedule. After this Friday the Ironmen will Dewey and Rejoice Christian in consecutive weeks. This Friday’s home game can be heard on KRIG 104.9 FM.
