Nowata Survives Against Kansas
The Nowata Ironmen is one game away from advancing to the Class 3A Area II Tournament with a 60-56 victory over Kansas Monday night at Verdigris. The game was close thanks to several lead changes and ties. Nowata's inside game played a factor and making free throws in the closing seconds helped the Ironmen advance to the Regional Consolation Finals. Cody Smith got off to a hot shot and led Nowata with 14 points while Matt Price finished with 13 points. Michael Velasco added 11 points. The Comets were led by Logan Blain with a game high 29 points.
Kansas finishes the season with a 10-14 record.
Nowata improves to 13-12 overall and will take on Lincoln Christian Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock for the Regional Consolation Finals. The winner advances to the Class 3A Area II Tournament at Skiatook on Thursday.
