OK-State Banned from 2022 NCAA Tourney

A big hit on Wednesday for Oklahoma State men’s basketball.

The Cowboys postseason ban was officially upheld by the NCAA, meaning OK-State will be ineligible for the 2022 NCAA Tournament this coming March.

The decision was handed down by the NCAA two years ago, but an appeal from Stillwater delayed the punishment. It was confirmed yesterday. The punishment stems from the college basketball bribery scandal and former assistant coach LaMont Evans for acts committed during the 2016-17 season.

Cowboy head coach Mike Boynton says he finds the punishment ridiculous.

The program is believed to be the first time a school has received a postseason ban despite no violations in the areas of institutional control, failure to monitor, recruiting, head coach accountability, participation of an ineligible athlete or academic fraud.

Evans never coached under Boynton and was let go prior to his first season as head coach.

Oklahoma State was coming off its first NCAA Tournament appearance in four years, and first win in 13 seasons.
