High school basketball is slated to heat up next week as several area squads will be action. Defending 2A state champs Oklahoma Union already have one game in the books. The Cougars defeated Preston in the opener 46-43 on November 19. OKU won’t play again until its hosts Caney Valley in its Northeast Valley Conference opener.

The Cougars will be without Jace Hollingshed, Nate Collier and Dillon Ellis—three seniors who helped the Cougars take state last season. OKU will lean heavily on Kade Hollingshed who is the only key returner from last season’s bunch. Head coach Lee Ott talks about what to expect from the team this year.

The Cougars will be featured in three local tournaments this year with usual trips to Nowata and Oologah as well as the Pawhuska tournament in late January.
