OKWU Basketball Teams Off To Good Start
Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams got off to a good start Tuesday night as they began their seasons with W's against Friends University. The Lady Eagles posted an 85-80 win while the Eagles won 93-88. In the womens game, the Lady Falcons led 33-31 at halftime, but the Lady Eagles outscored Friends 54-47 in the second half to pick up the win. Megan Jones led OKWU with 22 points, 19 of which came in the second half. Kayla Morgan finished with 21 points and went 6 of 8 from the arch. Christa Beasler finished with 20 points while Kelsey Jones added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams shot the ball well in the contest. OKWU shot 49 percent from the field while the Lady Falcons shot 41 percent. Turnovers were a problems for both teams. The Lady Eagles committed 23 turnovers compared to 16 for Friends University. Next up for the Lady Eagles is this Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock against Texas Wesleyan at Bartlesville. The mens game was very close as well as both teams went back and forth trading baskets and both on paper were much even. OKWU led 48-46 at halftime and outscored Friends University 45-42 in the second half to claim the win. Four OKWU players scored in double figures. Leading the way was Devin Harris 25 points while Josh Young added 18. Steven Cooks finished the evening with 12 points while Thaddeus Green came off the bench and scored 10 points. Both teams shot 50 percent from the field. The Falcons were led by Joe Mitchell with a game high 38 points. Next up for the Eagles is this Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock against St. Mary at Bartlesville.
