The Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles advanced to championship game of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a thrilling semifinal win over Friends, 73-to-70.

The Eagles rode on the back of junior Guard K.J. Malveau who had a career best 34 points in the win. Malveau’s knocked down three three-pointers in the first half and gave OKWU a 39-32 lead at halftime.

The Falcons would fight back in the contest and would take a one-point lead in the game’s final minute. Malveau would miss a floater in the lane but Joshua Wilchcombe would grab an offensive rebound and a putback bucket to give OKWU a 71-70 lead.

Wilchcombe would then block a potential go-ahead shot from the KCAC Player of the Year Jordan Murdock. A Malveau layup on the other end would clinch the victory for the Eagles.

OKWU will now face top-seeded Southwestern in the KCAC Tournament championship game on Monday night.

Because Southwestern was the KCAC regular season champion and has already clinched an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament, the Eagles will receive the conference’s other automatic bid regardless of the outcome.

OKWU split with the Moundbuilders in the regular season with both road teams earning victories. Southwestern finished the regular season with a 26-and-5 record and won its last five ballgames.

The conference championship game will tipoff at 8:00 p.m. and can be heard on 99.1 FM KPGM.
