OKWU Splits At Ottawa

Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in KCAC Saturday afternoon at Ottawa, Kansas with a 76-61 victory over Ottawa University while the Eagles lost their first KCAC game as the Braves won 86-74.

The women's game was tight for most the game.  Lady Eagles led 36-35 at halftime and outscored Ottawa 14-7 in the third period and 26-19 in the fourth period to pick up their fifth win of the season.   Once again, it was the second unit for the Lady Eagles put a spark in the game that made the difference.  Bench scoring favored OKWU 40-23.  Courtney Robinson came off the bench and scored all 14 points in the second half.  Susan Agesen led OKWU with 17 points and eight rebounds while Cheyenne Been made four 3-pointers and finished wiht 12 points.  Yessenia Hernandez came off the bench and added 10 points.  Ottawa was led by former Oklahoma Union Lady Cougars star Hannah Thomas with 17 points.  Lady Eagles shot 44 percent from the field and shot 42 percent from the 3-point line.  The Braves shot 30 percent from the field.  Lady Eagles out rebounded Ottawa 45-35.  

In the mens game, the Eagles got off to a fast start and led 6-0 early in the first half, but the shooting became cold and the Braves took advantage leading 39-29 at halftime.  OKWU responded early in the second half and outscored Ottawa 10-2 to trail 41-39.  Ottawa found a way to answer and won by 12 points.  CJ Ross led the Eagles with 17 points while Chance Houston added 12 points.  Breiman Alexander came off the bench and scored 11 points and Gerald Thomas finished with 10 points.  The Braves were led by Preston Oakes with 16 points and 13 rebounds.  The Eagles shot 35 percent while Ottawa shot 50 percent.  Bench scored favored the Braves 42-24.  OKWU drops to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in KCAC play.

Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles will play at Kansas Wesleyan Tuesday night.  Ladies play at 6 o'clock while the men will play at 8 o'clock.
