It was a great night at the Mueller Sports Center on Wednesday. Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles knocked off Bethany, plus the 2018-19 men’s team received their Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship rings.

After a tight first half the Lady Eagles separated in the second half to earn its sixth straight win to start the year, 71-50 over the Lady Swedes. OKWU led 34-32 at the break and then went on a 12-2 run early in the third quarter to pull away. After Bethany unraveled with three technical fouls down the stretch the Lady Eagles easily cemented another conference victory. Sophomore guard Makayla Watkins help put Bethany away with this three-pointer.

Wesleyan is now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in KCAC play.

The men’s team struggled to pull away from Bethany in the first half with some poor shooting. However, Brooks Haddock quickly turned that around as he hit a three-pointer on three consecutive possessions. This aided a 16-3 Eagle run to put them up 46-30 at halftime.

OKWU stretched the lead to 28 points by the 16-minute mark. Though things would get dicey from there as the Swedes reduced the lead to single digits late. The clutch play of freshman guard Austin Poling helped the Eagles seal it in the final minutes. Final score, 97-89. OKWU is now 5-2 overall and 1-1 in conference. Both teams will be back in action for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader against York at home.
