OKWU Sweeps Sterling; Clinch KCAC Tourney

Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams played their final home games of the season Thursday evening with a sweep over Sterling College.  Lady Eagles clinch KCAC tourney berth with a 68-50 win and the Eagles qualify for KCAC tourney with an 87-81 victory.

Lady Eagles started Senior Night on a slow start, but rebounded and took a 19-13 lead after the first quarter.  Both teams had trouble scoring in the second period, but OKWU led 24-23 at halftime.  For the second straight game, the Lady Eagles had a strong third quarter, outscoring Sterling College 28-11 and led 52-34.  OKWU would hold on the lead and won by 18 points.  Lady Eagles out rebounded Sterling 48-32 and shot 40 percent from the field.  Shelbie Kirby led with 20 points and Tiffany Rieger added 12 points.  Patience Gitau had a strong performance finishing with four points, 11 rebounds, and five block shots.  The evening recognized five young ladies who played their final game at home. Those were Shelbie Kirby, Raven Gaddis, Kori Dyer, Kayla Morgan, and Sierra Crow.  Lady Eagles are now 14-15 overall and 10-11 in KCAC play.

The mens game went back and forth as both teams were trying to find themselves.  Eagles trailed 38-37 at halftime and outscored the Warriors 50-43 to win by six points.  Breiman Alexander led with 31 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Elbert Lawrence finished with 15 points and AJ Jack added 12 points.  Pat Evertt had a solid performance as he finished with six points and 10 rebounds. Maurice Williams led Sterling with 21 points and seven rebounds.  The Eagles shot 47 percent from the field and out rebounded Sterling College 43-35.  OKWU improves to 13-15 overall and 10-11 in KCAC play.

Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles will conclude the regular season this Saturday evening at Tabor College.  Ladies play at 5 o'clock while the Men play at 7 o'clock.
